#ThrowbackThursday: 13 Reasons Why Black Sabbath Rocks!

Discuss: Black Sabbath are rock gods.

Yes, sure, there are lots of other hard rock bands, but guess what? Freaking 9/10ths of them cite Sabbath as a major influence and the other 1/10th?  What evah.

Black Sabbath has been making the heaviest of metal and the hardest of rock since 1968 and 4 decades later the band remains as ballsy as ever.  The group’s new cd is entitled “13” and was produced by Rick Rubin.

To commemorate this magnificent moment in all things rawk we give you 13 reasons why Black Sabbath are still bad to the bone. Raise your Satan horns high!

1 – “13” brings together ¾ of the original band – singer Ozzy Osborne, bassist Geezer Butler and guitar hero Tony Iommi. The album features Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) on drums.

2 – “13” is Sabbath’s first studio album with Ozzy since 1995.

3 – Black Sabbath was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

4 – Kanye West’s “Hell of a Life” contains a sample of Sabbath’s classic “Iron Man.”

5 – Busta Rhymes’ “This Means War” featured Ozzy on vocals. The song was an interpolation of “Iron Man.”

6 – Ozzy’s 2010 autobiography was entitled I Am Ozzy.

7 – The alternate title, I am the King of Darkness, didn’t fly.

8 – The book earned a Literary Achievement honor at the Guy’s Choice Awards. Sir Ben Kingsley presented said award to Ozzy.

9 – MTV named Black Sabbath “The Greatest Metal Band of all Time.”  Duh.

10 – The group’s new single is “God is Dead.” With lyrics such as “the blood runs free/the rain turns red” we’re assuming it’s not a power ballad.

11 – Black Sabbath’s eponymous 1970 debut is considered one of the greatest metal/rock albums of all time.

12 – So is1971’s “Paranoid.”

13 – As well as 1973’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.”

End of discussion.
