SoMo’s 10 Best YouTube Covers and MedleysOctober 28, 2013
A little more than two years ago, SoMo was an independent R&B singer from the small town of Denison, TX trying to use his voice to make it big. But he had a problem, the same problem that just about all independent R&B singers have. He was having trouble standing out in the crowd.
Two years later, SoMo has managed to work his way up and land a deal with Republic Records. So how was he able to do it? Well, it took a lot of hard work, a constant grind, and a series of dope YouTube videos that have earned him millions and millions of views over the course of the last 24 months. From an excellent medley of songs off Drake‘s Take Care album to a dope cover of Wale’s “Bad,” SoMo has recorded a number of videos in the last two years to help get himself the attention he was looking for back in late 2011. So as he continues to prep his debut album, we decided to take a look back at the 10 best YouTube covers and medleys created by SoMo. He owes just about all of his success to the views that these videos received. Well that, and the fact that he can blow! Enjoy.
The Video: A medley of a handful of songs off Drake’s Take Care
Why It Was Great: SoMo couldn’t have timed this one any better. He released it just days before Take Care was released, and it went over very well with all of the Drake fans out there.
The Video: A cover of Wale’s hit “Bad”
Why It Was Great: SoMo actually to change the words on this one since a female was originally used on the hook for the song. But he still made it sound excellent.
The Video: A medley of a handful of Frank Ocean songs
Why It Was Great: At some point, some people out there accused SoMo of using Autotune to make his voice sound so good. So he created this medley to prove them wrong.
The Video: A medley of a handful of songs off The Weeknd’s Trilogy
Why It Was Great: Not many people can sing a song originally recorded by The Weeknd and make it sound good. SoMo did it over and over and over again on this medley.
The Video: A cover of Lana Del Ray’s hit “Young & Beautiful”
Why It Was Great: Forget the orchestra that he hired to play this song! Kanye West should have had SoMo help him propose to Kim Kardashian with this cover.

Why It Was Great: SoMo managed to inject some new life into a lot of older CB tracks on this.
The Video: A cover of Rich Homie Quan’s hit “Type of Way”
Why It Was Great: Yup, SoMo took it here. This is the last song we would have picked for him to cover. But he took on the challenge and nailed it.
The Video: A cover of Miley Cyrus’ hit “Wrecking Ball”
Why It Was Great: SoMo capitalized off of all the hoopla surrounding Miley and the VMAs by performing a cover of her new single shortly after she released it.
The Video: SoMo’s original song “The Ride”
Why It Was Great: SoMo does more than just cover other artists’ songs. This is just the first of many, many, many singles that we are expecting from him.
The Video: A medley of a handful of songs off Drake’s Nothing Was the Same
Why It Was Great: About two years after releasing his Take Care medley, SoMo came full circle by releasing this medley that features him covering a bunch of songs off NWTS. He’s still got it, folks!
