About Rise of an Empire…
It’s a decidedly royal rap affair showcasing the label’s marquee and burgeoning talent firing on all cylinders. Among those acts are heavyweights such as Young Money CEO Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga as well as label pillars Gudda Gudda, Cory Gunz, Lil Twist, Jae Millz, and Shanell and the latest signees Euro, Chanel West Coast, PJ Morton, Christina Milian, and more.
The first official single “We Alright” featuring Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Euro bursts out of the gate with sizzling swagger. In addition to flaunting airtight bars from Wayne and Birdman, Providence, Rhode Island rap wunderkind Euro officially arrives on his first-ever track—and it’s a monumental introduction, to say the least. The song has been rising at Urban radio as well since its January release.
Young Money: Rise Of An Empire is the successor to the gold-selling 2009 Young Money LP, We Are Young Money, and it proclaims the dawn of the label’s next chapter.
+ “…an industrial vibe loosely reminiscent of New Order and well-thought out pop lyricism…” - Do Androids Dance?
+ “Balancing chilly synths with warm vocals, Hylas is set to soar across dancefloors.” - BlackBook Magazine
The Berlin electronic troubadour seamlessly fuses sexy cinematic futurism to undeniably catchy hooks, opening the doorway into the next phase of pop music in the process.
The album has already been preceded by the hypnotic single “Red Eyes“. The song officially impacts radio next week and has garnered over 262K YouTube/VEVO views and counting. Merging cinematic musicality and a shimmering refrain, it’s the perfect example of Azier‘s dark, dynamic, and diverse sound.
Thomas Azier was born in the Netherlands, but relocated to Berlin at age 19. After hundreds of sketches and pre-productions on his computer, Thomas eventually started to lay the final touches on his debut in the Fall of 2012. He set up his studio in an old East German factory where the church bells for the Kremlin used to be manufactured. That old factory proved just the right place for the truly industrial twist on pop music Azier was looking for. He had a vision of pushing boundaries, combining analog sounds and dramatic, warm vocals with violent noises and the natural sounds of the factory.
The entire album is written, composed, played and produced by the 25-year old multi-instrumentalist himself, only assisted by sound designer and co-producer Robin Hunt. His sound bridges gaps between cultures as well. Combining factory sounds derived from the Dutch gabber and hardcore scene, the German electronic scene and the epic and profound emotions you would find in French artists, he may well have defined the sound of European Pop Music in 2014.
