Artist Spotlight: The Colourist

Artist Spotlight: The Colourist

Tell us a bit about yourselves. Band background.

We are a group of close friends who were brought together by chance, luck and lots of good juju.

Which portrayal is closest to the truth: The OC or Real Housewives of Orange County?

Honestly, I don’t think any of us have actually watched those shows. I would compare it more to that film “Weekend at Bernie’s” minus tugging around a dead guy in sunglasses.

You are a self-described majestic rock band.  What are some examples of your majesty?

During the record writing process, we were away at a cabin in the woods and heard what we thought was a cat meowing really loudly. We got a strange feeling so we decided to investigate: it turned out to be an elderly woman stranded helplessly on some rocks. We were her only neighbors for miles! We came to her rescue and it turned out she had taken a bad fall and couldn’t move. She had been stuck there all day! The four of us carried her back to her home and applied bandages to her wounds. Pretty majestic that we were in the right place at the right time and able to help her!

What inspired the name of the band?

After tossing around numerous bad ideas, we came up with the name after a friend mentioned that “the colourist” was coming in to work on her student film. The colourist is the person that brings film and photos to life by taking charge of the colour. It also wasn’t taken so that was a plus!

So far, what has been your favorite city to play?

Every city we’ve visited has been great to us. As a band, we love cities that have passionate crowds that aren’t afraid to move. They keep us on our toes.

What city are you looking forward to playing?

Ahh, too many to list! Here are a few bucket list spots: London, Madrid, Jamaica.

How do you gauge success?

It’s amazing to see people connecting to our music. This has been a great year for us so far. There is lots more to come, which is always exciting.

What would be your dream collaboration?

Maybe having Art Bell come out and introduce us “from west of the rockies” as Phil Collins, Karen Carpenter and Chris James share the stage with us.
