AKON LOCKS UP NUMBER ONE SLOT AGAIN WITH THIRD SINGLE DONT MATTER
Topping Billboard Hot 100 Singles, Airplay and Rhythm Crossover Chart
(New York, NY, March 27, 2007) Multiplatinum superstar artist/writer/producer Akon continues his unprecedented assault on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, jumping from #3 to #1 with Dont Matter, his sizzling third single from the double platinum-and-counting Konvicted, the song soaring to the top rung of the Hot 100 singles, Hot 100 Airplay and at the Rhythm Crossover format. The video for the top-requested song is also breaking new ground, becoming a mainstay at BET, VH-1 and MTVs prestigious Big 10 rotation.
Two weeks ago, the RIAA certified the SRC/Universal Motown superstars sophomore disk double-platinum, with the charismatic artist blazing the cover of Vibe Magazines April issue. Dubbed the last hitmaker by the urban tastemaker, the magnetic Akon wears the crown well when you consider hes recently emblazoned his signature vocals and/or production style on songs for Bone Thugs N Harmony, Three 6 Mafia, T.I., and Chili of TLC. Not to mention the pop stalwarts hes been collaborating with, including Gwen Stefani.
Akon will hit the road with the superstar diva in April on her Sweet Escape Tour, named after the song he co-partnered with Stefani, another chart-topping missle that has established the Senegalese icon (whos also done his share of scrapping on the streets of St. Louis) as musics most prodigious hitsmith. Akons prior smash hits from Konvicted, such as Smack That, featuring Eminem, and I Wanna Love You, featuring Snoop Dogg, held the #1 and #2 spots simulataneously, a feat achieved in modern chart history by only two other artists (Usher and Mariah Carey.) Akons magic has also held sway over the digital and mobile domains, cracking the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, and reigning as Cingulars top-selling ringtone artist ever, becoming the only artist to have two double platinum ringtones, Smack That and I Wanna Love You.
The Sweet Escape Tour will kick off on April 22 in San Diego at the Coors Amphitheatre and wraps on June 23 in Irvine at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
